What is the Card Design Studio service?

The Card Design Studio service allows you to customize the look of your eligible personal or business card to create a unique, distinctive card that reflects your personality and interests or showcases your business. You can customize your card using your own image or logo1, or select an image from our image library.

To get started, simply sign on to access Card Design Studio Locate the eligible card you wish to customize and click Customize Now. If you plan to use your own image to customize the design of your card, to save time we recommend that you make sure your image is ready to upload before you begin and that it complies with our image guidelines.

How much does it cost?

There is currently no fee for using the Card Design Studio service to customize the design of your card.

Which cards can I customize?

If your card is available for customization, you will find it listed as eligible on the Card Design Studio service page. If you are a Wells Fargo customer, you can use the Card Design Studio service as long as:

  • You have an eligible and activated card.
  • Not all cards are eligible for customization. If your card is not listed as eligible, it is not available for customization.
  • Your accounts are in good standing.
  • You have access to your cards via Wells Fargo Online®.

Simply sign on to access Card Design Studio.

Personal Credit Cards with Multiple Cardholders

If you have a personal credit card with multiple cardholders, each card can be customized with a unique image or design. Account holders can customize a card for anyone on the account, including additional cardholders, but please note that all cardholders on the account will be issued a new card with a new expiration date each time any credit card on the account is customized. To prevent processing delays, we recommend that you customize all cards on the account within the same session.

Business Cardholders

Employees and business owners may be able to customize their own cards. Business credit cardholders can also customize the card of any authorized signer, provided they have access to the card via their Wells Fargo Business Online®.

Why isn’t my card available for customization?

Cards Unavailable for Customization

Not all cards are eligible for customization. If your card is not listed as eligible, it is not available for customization. In addition, some cards may become ineligible. If this happens, your card will no longer be listed as eligible and you will receive a standard card with your next card replacement.

Cards Temporarily Unavailable for Customization

If your card is listed on the Card Design Studio service page but the Status is not listed as eligible, your card will be temporarily unavailable to customize because it is currently in one of the following statuses:

Card Status—Processing. The Processing status indicates that you’ve recently requested a customized card and your selected image and customization are currently being reviewed for approval.

Card Status—Available Soon. The Available Soon status indicates that you are not able to customize the design of your card at this time. Reasons for the Available Soon status include:

  • Your card is about to expire. If your card is eligible for customization but is about to expire, it will be temporarily unavailable for customization. Once you receive and activate your reissued card that we will mail to you, your card will be listed as eligible for customization on the Card Design Studio service page. Please note: There may be a slight delay before your new card is available for customization.
  • Your card was recently lost or stolen. If you recently reported a lost or stolen card, your card will be assigned a new number and your previous card number will no longer be listed as eligible for customization. Once your new card number has been created, you will see your card listed as eligible on the Card Design Studio service page.
  • You have a new card. If you just opened your account and only recently activated your card, there may be a slight delay before your new card is available for customization.
  • Card Status—Customized. The Customized status indicates that Wells Fargo has approved your customized design and your new card has been issued.

Once your card is available to be customized, the card status will automatically change from Processing or Available Soon to Customized or Eligible on the Card Design Studio service page.

Personal Credit Cards with Multiple Cardholders

If you recently customized one or more personal credit cards, there will be a waiting period before you can customize additional cards on your account.

Customizing the Design of Your Card

How do I customize the design of my card?

To customize the design of your card, simply select the design option you wish to use then follow the provided step-by-step instructions.

What are my design options?

You can customize the design of your card in a number of ways:

Personal Cards

You can customize the design of your eligible personal card in the following ways:

  • Upload or select a background image. Choose from our library of unique background images or upload your own image1.

Business Cards

You can customize your eligible business card in the following ways:

  • Upload or select a background image. Choose from our library of unique background images or upload your own image. You even have the option to add your company name and/or tagline.
  • Add your logo. This option allows you to add your logo to one of our pre-designed templates and includes the option to add your company name and/or tagline.

Note: Design options may vary between card products. Due to differences in monitor displays, computer graphics capabilities, as well as the size and quality of your image, the design you create and approve online may vary slightly from the actual card you receive.

What are the image guidelines?

To customize the design of your card, you can select an image from our image library or upload your own image. Business customers can upload a company logo, a photo depicting your business “storefront,” or another image that captures an aspect of your business. Most images can be cropped, scaled, rotated, or flipped using tools provided in the Card Design Studio service.

All of the images in our image library are approved for use in the design of your card. If you choose to upload your own image, it must adhere to the following guidelines:

Image Guidelines

Wells Fargo reserves the right to accept or reject any artwork, images or logos. The guidelines below will help you choose an acceptable image. If your image does not meet these image guidelines, or if we reject it for any other reason, we will send you an email and invite you to try again using a different image.

For all images you must:

  • Use one of the following file formats: .jpeg, .jpg, .gif, .png, or .bmp.
  • Upload a file that is less than ten megabytes (that is, 10 MB or 10,000 KB).
  • Own the image or have permission from the owner to use the image on your card.
  • Get approval from the owner if you use any logo, name, or tag line that isn’t yours.

For background images you must have pixel dimensions that are greater than or equal to 840x840.

For photos and logos you must have pixel dimensions that are greater than or equal to 400x400.

Images that include any of the following will be rejected:

  • Third-party trademarks, logos, copyrighted materials, advertising, and branding.
  • Name, image and likeness of celebrities, musicians, athletes, entertainers, or other public figures.
  • Telephone numbers, URLs, account numbers, addresses, or email addresses.
  • Cartoon characters or artwork that you have not created and/or do not have permission from the copyright owner to use.
  • Violent, offensive, anti-social, or death imagery – including any other material that could be perceived as violent.
  • Provocative, lewd, or sexual content – including nude, semi-nude, or partially clothed pictures of people of any age.
  • Dead animals, including game animals.
  • Political or religious imagery or text.
  • Symbols representing money or other content that might result in confusion at the merchant, or that might result in card fraud.
  • Socially unacceptable or discriminatory behavior or signs (For example, gangs, hatred, drug or alcohol abuse, graffiti, profanity, or other obscene behavior or gestures).
  • Images of flags, unless it is one of the flag-related images from our image library.
  • Photos altered using emojis or other images from third party phone app processes or features, including lens and filters.

Business Customers

Business cards may display your own company logo, an image depicting your business “storefront,” or another image that captures an aspect of your business, provided it meets the Image Guidelines listed above.

Customers with Multiple Cards

You may use the same image on all the cards on your accounts, or differentiate your cards using a distinct image for each card. You can only design one card at a time, so you will need to customize each card individually.

How can I make sure the file I’m uploading meets the file format, file size, and pixel dimension guidelines?

If you’re not sure about the file format, file size, or pixel dimensions, it may be faster and easier to identify an appropriate file before you browse and attempt to upload your file in the Card Design Studio service. If you’re using a PC, you can usually find file format, file size, and pixel dimensions by right-clicking on the file and selecting Properties. If you’re using a Mac, you can usually find pixel dimensions by clicking on the file and selecting Get Info. The method for finding this information will vary depending on your operating system.

What if the image I want to upload doesn’t meet the file format, file size, and pixel dimension guidelines?

Certain disposable cameras, mobile phones, and other picture-taking devices don’t produce high-quality, high-resolution images. As a result, you may not be able to alter the file to make it meet the guidelines.

Sometimes you can successfully alter your image files using a photo software application from your camera company or another photo-editing tool.

Can I preview or store my uploaded images online?

You will only be able to preview your uploaded image and selected design during the customization process. Once your image has been approved, Wells Fargo will keep the image on file for as long as you decide to use it on your card. If you choose to remove your customization or select a new customization, your original image will no longer be available. If your card is reissued or replaced, the new card will feature your current customization.

What should I do if my Wells Fargo Online session times out before I submit my customization?

The system allows 30 minutes for the customization process and will alert you when you have 5 minutes remaining to complete your session. If your Wells Fargo Online session times out before you click Submit and receive a confirmation, you will need to start the customization process again.

We recommend you make sure your image is ready to upload before you begin to give yourself more time to crop, resize, and place your image as well as review your overall design.

After You Customize Your Card

How long will it take to receive my new card?

Wells Fargo will review your customizations and image selection then send you an email within approximately 2 business days to let you know if your design is approved. Once approved, your new card should arrive in approximately 5-7 calendar days.

What should I do if Wells Fargo does not approve my customization?

Wells Fargo will notify you by email if there’s a problem with the customization and image that you submitted, and we will invite you to try again with a different image that meets our posted Image Guidelines. In most cases, solving the problem may be as simple as selecting an image that isn’t trademarked or under copyright.

What should I do when my customized card arrives?

When your new card arrives:

  1. Activate your new card immediately.
  2. Securely destroy all old cards.
  3. If the expiration date on your card has changed, please inform any merchants with whom you have scheduled payments that your card's expiration date has changed to ensure that your payments continue without interruption.

Does customizing the design of my card change anything about my card or account?

Your newly designed card's number and (if applicable) your Personal Identification Number (PIN) will remain the same, and you will continue to be able to use your card at participating merchants and service providers. However, your newly designed card may have a new expiration date. Please inform any merchants with whom you have scheduled payments that your card's expiration date has changed to ensure that your payments continue without interruption.

Can I change or remove the customization on my card?

Removing Your Customization

For personal credit cards: To remove the customization from your card, please call us at 1-800-642-4720

For other customized cards

To remove the customization from your card, simply visit the Card Design Studio service page and click Remove (listed under Next Steps). Alternately, you can call us at 1-800-225-5935 (for all business cards) or visit your nearest Wells Fargo branch (for all debit cards).

If you decide to remove your customization, we will send you a Wells Fargo card with a standard non-customized Wells Fargo image.

Updating Your Customization

You can update your customization at any time. However, if you recently customized your card, there may be a waiting period before you can submit your next customization request. To find out if your card is eligible for customization, please visit the Card Design Studio service page. Eligible cards will be listed with an Update link (listed under Next Steps).

If I update my card customization, can I revert to an older customization?

If you choose to remove your customization or select a new customization, your original image will no longer be available and you will have to recreate your customization.

What happens if I switch to a new card?

If you switch to a card with a new account number, you will have to recreate your customization. Once you receive and activate your new card, its Status will be listed as eligible on the Card Design Studio service page. Please note that there may be a slight delay before your new card is available for customization. In addition, some cards may become ineligible. If this happens, your card will no longer be listed as eligible and you will receive a standard card with your next card replacement.

Why did my spouse (or other cardholder on my account) receive a different card when I customized my personal credit card?

New cards are sent to all personal credit card holders on an account whenever any individual card is customized. If you didn’t customize all the cards on the account in one session, then remaining cardholders will receive a new version of their current card with an updated expiration date. Please inform any merchants with whom you have scheduled payments that your card's expiration date has changed to ensure that your payments continue without interruption.

If you have a personal credit card with multiple cardholders, we recommend that you customize all cards on the account within the same session to avoid processing delays.
